What are you reading? How do you stay informed?

I must admit that I am not a fashion magazine subscriber right now.  I used to get W but I gave up because it was too hard to keep track of things I liked.  Google images is a much faster reference for me.  I can download the images to a folder on my computer for quick reference.  I also like using the online catalogs from stores.  They are a good reference for sizing, lengths, and fabric content.

Take a look at my inspirations for the little black dress contest and the treasure city fashion show… (more…)

Free Stuff/McQueen Mini-kimono

So Tina sent me an email alerting me to FREE patterns online. Granted you will have to dig around for them, but I promise that they are there.

My fall project (after I get the stuff for the show done) will be this Alexander McQueen Jacket.

It’s a mini kimono with vest-like attributes.

Too busy to blog??

What have I been up to since I last checked in?…
alterations, restorations, refashions, reproductions, oh my…
I’ve been doing a ton of work for a massage therapist.  She asked me to copy a pair of pants and make a pattern.  Since then she has had me make 8 pairs of pants.  We are working on her favorite shirt now. I am not so scared of pattern making now (or my serger).

In July, I found Fabric Mecca.  It’s in Dallas.  Two words, Perth Street.  I found $6/yd linen.

I altered my best friends wedding dress. She had me dream up how to bustle it up.
In my recent webcrawlings I came accross this tutorial on how to hem jeans.  Dig in.

If you want to see what I have been up to you can check out my flicker page.

spinster n.

  1. a woman whose occupation is to spin
  2. an unmarried woman and especially one past the common age for marrying
  3. a woman who seems unlikely to marry

The word spinster came into common use during the early 19th century when the task of spinning cloth had been pushed onto unmarried women as a way to earn their keep in the home.

Contemporary use of the word conjures up a mental image of an independent a childless, stylish frumpy, middle-aged woman who is a jet-setting, trendsetter somewhat depressed, and is an inspiration to other women longing to be like other "normal" women.
